I'm liking names like Assassins, Sharks, maybe Wasps for the small ones that like to group up. I'm not too familiar with using them, but obviously they'll have different names based on their size, which we'll discover the later the game progresses on what works. I don't think you can realistically have a small carrier because it can't hold more than one ship before being a medium ship.Ĭloakers will also have very unique names. Oh and cloakersĬarriers can have different titles based on how many ships they can carry. From my experience, ships come into a few roles: Normal Damage Dealing ships, Carriers that hold other ships, Logistic Ships to support the fleet, and Command Ships specially designed for the leaders. Because people can fly around with only a core or barely anything and massive ships have almost no limit, middle class ships seem to have a nice little snug roll between tiny and small and huge and "holy shit". Rational: Light and heavy ships are going to have the most distinctions. People in comments who've really helped make this better: arality, Kamon2011, City_builder, Lucus292, CBMSoap, Dagnatic, rrnate, Wherethefuckyoufrom It will save you space, money, time, and give your ship a lot more bang for your buck. Research how power generation actually works. Most useful carriers will have to be at least 7th Tier ships. Tidbits on shipbuilding I've gathered so far:Ĭarriers are not something you build in a day. Speeder, Courier, Dropship, Passenger Shuttleįrigate, Destroyer, Interceptor, heavy, gunship, missile ship Miniship, ultra-light ship, escape pod/capsule Light Weight Tiers: 1-50 blocks/.1-5 Mass How much difference is needed for a ship to count as a new class is somewhat arbitrary and is up to the faction to decide, really.Ī Capital Ship is the largest ship of a fleet, whatever that may be. This would make all other ships of the same or similiar design Invincible- class Titans. So for example, a new Titan is commissioned and it's name is Invincible. A common way for naming ship classes is to name it after the lead ship. The names of ship classes are generally up to the faction/nation the ship belongs to. Ship class on the other hand designates ships of identical or similiar design. For example, using the classification here, a battling ship with a mass of 800.1-1,000 could be called a dreadnought. So a ship's type would probably be decided by it's purpose and it's mass. These are generally based on purpose and/or tonnage, although I don't believe that tonnage is really applicable in this game. There is a distinction between ship types and between ship classes. So I've reworked my blocks counts, generally making them much larger. People were making ships that looked and functioned like fighters but were of Destroyer size by my chart. For the most part, people don't play starmade to make small ships. Recent Edit: Upon looking at the general size of most of the ships I see people building on servers, I've realized that ships in Starmade in general are BIG. I need people to go in game, get some ships of various sizes, and help me calibrate the size/weight tiers. X, Y, Z Reactor - Best described as 3 pillars going in 3 different directions, this reactor can further shorten the effective size of a reactor assembly if the ship or station it is on has enough height.(Please comment if you think anything needs to be changed) Edits: 20īTW GUYS: I'm completely pulling these size/weight measurements out of nowhere.L Reactor - Two Straight Line Reactors joined along different planes, L Reactors can take up a smaller effective portion of a vessel or station without sacrificing any power generation.X Reactor - Consists of several Straight Line Reactors touching by the corners in order to save space.Straight Line Reactors - A giant column that extends through the length, breadth, or height of the ship or station.Complex Cube Reactors - Actually many smaller reactors crammed into a cube-shaped space, this design exploits the fact that reactor groupings do not consider parts touching only by corners and/or edges to be part of the same assembly. It is also the least efficient in terms of power regeneration rate. Solid Cube Reactors - One of the most simple designs, it is simply a solid cube of SD HCT xm3.4 blocks. There are several types of reactor designs that may be followed: Starmade - Power Tutorial Types of Reactor
